In a time where the daily news is flooded with negative stories highlighting the very worst of humanity, it is imperative to take and moment to recognize that even the simplest act of kindness can spark joy in the hearts of those around us.

This heartwarming story out of Florida started with the simple request of an unidentified McDonalds restaurant customer who wished to share her Christmas joy with the vehicle behind her. As the woman approached the drive-thru window, she asked cashier Marisabel Figueroa Lopez if could pay for the next customers order and if the employee could tell that individual Merry Christmas, specifically instead of the standard Happy Holidays.

Believing that the customer had a wonderful idea, Lopez obliged the request which sparked a chain reaction of hundreds continuing to pay it forward throughout the day.

She gave me her card, and she said I would like for you to tell her [the customer in the car behind her] a message. And I was like Okay. She said I want you to tell her to have a Merry Christmas, Lopez told Fox 13.

The cashier went on to explain that the woman specifically asked Lopez to say Merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays.

But the spirit of Christmas giving didnt end there. A chain reaction of customers paying it forward continued throughout the afternoon. From about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 250 people had paid for the car behind them, says Lopez who began keeping track on a piece of paper after the 15th customer came through.

When the 251st customer arrived, she seemed confused by the concept, according to Lopez.

She was speechless, the cashier told Bay News 9. She said, What do I do? And I said, You just have a Merry Christmas, and she went off, and it stopped right there.

Lopez added that she was shocked to witness this goodwill carry on for so long and that she truly hopes that it will inspire others across the country to share the spirit of giving. Its the spirit of giving she felt like she could start something. And she did. I want to tell that person out there, Thank you. Lopez stated.
